WATER QUALITY PERMIT MONITORING AND COMPLIANCEoak st pipe

The National Center is working to achieve 100% water quality permit compliance in the Rogue Valley starting with the Bear Creek watershed, which encompasses the communities of Medford, Central Point, Phoenix, Talent, White City, and Ashland.

The National Center's Water Quality Permit Monitoring and Compliance Project works to ensure that every permittee in the Rogue Valley regulated by the Clean Water Act complies with the terms in their discharge permits that were designed to protect fish and people.  When we find a permit holder who is not in compliance we work with them to aid in their voluntary correction of the situation.  When such assistance is not enough, the Department of Environmental Quality is notified to help bring the permit holder into compliance.

As this project matures, the National Center will identify water pollutants that should be regulated - or better regulated - to protect water quality. Our monitoring and compliance project provides us with important on-the-ground knowledge in support of our work to establish strong and effective water quality standards and management direction in the valley.  It also provides real world experience with Clean Water Act implementation that informs our water quality policy work at both the state and national levels.

This project is funded in part by generous support from the Bullitt Foundation and the Harder Foundation.
