Developing scientific research on ecological questions at the heart of looming policy debates
CONSERVATION SCIENCE INITIATIVE
A solid, credible scientific foundation is critical to the success of efforts to protect and restore the life processes and ecological vitality that sustain all lands, waters and communities.
Through our Conservation Science Initiative, the National Center conducts and supports original research on strategically important resource management questions.
We use computer-based mapping and satellite imagery technology, ecological field surveys and habitat assessments, and other scientific methodologies to bring important peer-reviewed ecological information to management and policy debates.
Our work is designed to bridge the gap between scientists and decision makers by encouraging the
scientific community to ask the questions that the decision makers need
answers to and then providing a translation of that technical information so that decision-makers without scientific backgrounds can understand it.
Our Conservation Science Projects:
Cascade Siskiyou National Monument Grazing Impact Research
Bear Creek Macroinvertebrate Project
Conservation Status of Native Fishes Assessment
Survey & Manage Requirements of the Northwest Forest Plan
