WILD NURTURE
Healthy lands and waters support healthy people and communities…and healthy people and communities take care of the lands and waters around them.
At the National Center for Conservation Science & Policy, we believe that effective conservation requires people who are connected with the natural world and have the information they need to understand what they see.
Our Wild Nurture program works to strengthen these connections and foster an understanding of ecological processes within local communities and the halls of government. We are involved in the following projects:
* Conferences & Workshops – hosting natural resource conferences and workshops on critical natural resource issues
* Headwaters Gallery – celebrating the connections among lands, waters and communities through art
* Oregon Big Tree Project – maintaining a registry of the biggest individuals of native and naturalized tree species found in Oregon
* Community Events – joining the community in honoring the earth’s land and water resources during Rogue Valley Earth Day and Bear Creek Salmon Fest celebrations
* Educational Research Opportunities – providing local high school Volunteer Research Assistants and Southern Oregon University Workstudy Program Assistants an opportunity for hands on field research experience helping to monitor water quality as part of the Bear Creek Macroinvertebrate Project.
* White Papers & Publications – writing and publishing briefing papers, brochures, and peer-reviewed technical papers on natural resource issues
* Conservation Connection - a quarterly newsletter designed to share scientific information and progress on the National Center's ongoing policy and on-the-ground initiatives
