HEADWATERS GALLERY

Theresa AckersonUnder the direction of Gallery Director Theresa Ackerson, the Headwaters Gallery, located in the Headwaters Environmental Center at 84 Fourth Street in Ashland, Oregon, exhibits an amazing and varied range of artistic explorations of the natural world.  A new show is featured and remains on display each month (see below for monthly shows).  Come visit the gallery!

  • First Friday of the month - each new show is unveiled during a 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. reception as part of the City of Ashland’s Art Walk
  • First Saturday of the month - "Saturday Stroll" summer hours: 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; winter hours: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • The Headwaters Environmental Center is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   We welcome everyone interested in viewing the art to visit us during business hours, but ask that you call prior to visiting to ensure the room is not in use. The Headwaters Gallery doubles as a community room and is available to rent for meetings, concerts and other special events.
  • Gallery shows also will be open for one Saturday Stroll during the month; please call (541) 482-4459 for scheduled date and time.

Operated by the National Center, the Headwaters Gallery has been an active member of the Ashland Gallery Association since 2002.  The Gallery features works by budding and established artists who use their talents to portray their concern for the protection, restoration and conservation of our lands, waters and communities using photography, metal sculpture, fine woodcraft and carving, ceramics, watercolor, acrylic and oil, and additional art mediums.

June 2008 - Eternal Nature, Internal Realities
Ebn
and Lyn Wandell present a mother and son exhibition of mandala garden rocks hand-painted with acrylic and pen and abstract expressionist paintings in watercolor and acrylics.

May 2008 - Along the Wayside
Liz Fappiano creates Linoleum Block Prints from the state of Washington

April 2008 - Shattered Illusions
Josh ZanZerah Willow hand paints her manipulated photography. 

March 2008 - Mindscapes and Landscapes
Featuring the Pastel and Mixed media art of Shari Kalb, and the photography of John Kalb.  Shari's passion for color, light and texture infuse her vibrant pastel landscapes and mixed media pieces.  The beauty of nature and the play of natural light are John's photographic canvas.

February 2008 - Imagination of Roger Robinson
This appropriately named show will feature vivid watercolors in miniature by Roger Robinson, whose creativity was fueled in early childhood by his first "Red Ryder" coloring book.

2007

December 2007 – Black and White Explorations
Stylized black and white nature pieces, in a unique oversized format, by award winning Ashland photographer and Southern Oregon University student Kyle Logsdon.

November 2007 – Collaborating Ideas
J. Paul and Priscilla Andrews work together to create dynamic works in oil and metal that reflect the world around us.

October 2007 – Salmon In Mind
An exhibition of artwork submitted in conjunction with Salmon Fest.  Artists include: Patty Sgrecci - mobiles; Richard Jarel - composite sculpture; Roger Long - banner painting; and Brad Kaufman - whimsical acrylic aquatic offerings.

September 2007 – From Pastels to Fused Glass
Studies of landscapes and wildlife in fused glass by Mike Korpa and pastels and oils by Janie P. Hutchinson.  Also introducing handblown, handpainted art glass by Christopher Hurley.

August 2007 – Almost Natural
Photographs of nature by Jack Leishman that appear to be slightly squeezed through another visual dimension.

July 2007 – Nature's Garden
Award winning artist, Elaine Frenett, shares her interpretation of nature's dramatic changing wardrobe with stylized water media and art books. 

June 2007 – Natural History: Pastels of O. Chris Adams
O. Chris Adams speaks with soft pastels and creative placement of totemic images in landscape and still life pieces.

May 2007 - Be the Change! 
A special exhibition of juried work submitted in conjunction with  Earth Day 2007 will be exhibited along with the photography of Brandon Goldman, some of which was taken at this year's Rogue Valley Earth Day Celebration. 

April 2007 – A Celebration of Trees
Featuring many pieces by Elaine Witteveen and Wanda Pepin inspired by their love of the Southern Oregon landscape.  Elaine, a formally trained fine artist, specializes in watercolor and mixed media collages.  Wanda, an internationally collected fine artist, creates highly textured work primarily painted with acrylic using a palette knife.  Elaine and Wanda are members of the Artist Workshop, which Elaine pioneered.  The show opens on Friday, April 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., as well as on Saturday, April 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Artwork on display through April 30th. 

March 2007 – Plein Airists
Using their talents to capture the natural world in an outdoor setting, Norm Rossignol and Kay Driver explore the interplay of light and shadow using watercolor, pastels, acrylic and casein.  The show opened on Friday, March 2 and will run through Wednesday, March 28.

February 2007 – Explorations
Discover the unique places, people, and diverse ecosystems of the Tongass National Forest, Alaska through the camera lens of Ashley E. Atkinson, a photographer, science teacher, and environmental educator.

January 2007 – Connections
Experience the vision of 10 regional artists who share their impressions – using metal, woodworking, fused glass, ceramic sculpture, natural fibers, sand, acrylic and oil painting – of the links among lands, waters and communities and the positive impact that preservation and conservation have on local communities and the world at large.
