OREGON BIG TREE PROJECT

Since 1940, American Forests has maintained a National Big Tree Registry recognizing the largest known specimens of about 800 native and naturalized tree species in the United States. The specimens are nominated and verified by big tree programs in all fifty states. Oregon´s history in the Big Tree Program dates back into the 1950s and, in 2006, the National Center for Conservation Science & Policy assumed responsibility for maintaining Oregon’s Big Tree Registry.
The purpose of the Oregon Big Tree Project is to raise awareness of and appreciation for Oregon's largest trees. The list of champion trees located in the state of Oregon includes information about each state champion and the corresponding tree species. Just click on the species name for more information.
Within this site you will also find a discussion of the importance of big trees, instructions for nominating a Big Tree, and information about volunteering. If you would like to volunteer to help us verify new nominations, re-certify existing champions, or build our Big Tree photo library, please contact us. We would love your participation!
