The National Center for Conservation Science & Policy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit conservation science and policy organization with a mission of creating science-based solutions to protect and restore the life processes and ecological vitality that sustain all lands, waters and communities.

Our work focuses on three main program areas: Wild Lands, Wild Waters and Wild Nurture, each of which includes projects built on three major strategies, including:

  • Conservation Science Initiative: Initiating original research and synthesizing existing science on emerging regional and national resource management and policy issues

  • Science In Action Initiative: Constructing an effective "science bridge" to disseminate key scientific findings to education decision-makers, the media, conservation groups and other stakeholders, and the general public so that credible, effective policy initiatives are developed and moved forward
  • Headwaters Heritage Initiative: Providing on-the-ground pilot projects that showcase potential policies in action.  All projects are selected strategically for their ability to be exported to other communities facing similar resource management questions

Our Board of Directors, Science Advisory Board and Staff are committed to moving forward in fulfilling the mission of the organization on behalf of the land, the waters and the children whose natural heritage we steward.

Our quarterly publication, Conservation Connection, is designed to share scientific information and the progress of our work.

The National Center for Conservation Science & Policy was formed in 2006 by merging the staff and programs of the World Wildlife Fund's Klamath-Siskiyou Regional Office with those of Headwaters.

Our offices are located in the Headwaters Center in Ashland, Oregon.  The Headwaters Center also houses the Headwaters Gallery, which is available to rent for meetings and special events.

There are many ways you can help the work of the National Center for Conservation Science & Policy.  We appreciate your interest in our work and welcome you to our site.

Did you know?

Oil, grease, pesticides and other pollutants carried in stormwater gurgling off streets, parking lots and roofs can have surprisingly large effects on several life stages of coho salmon.
